bringing ZORRO Mania
to the Phillipines
The legend of Zorro continues on GMA Telebabad. He's
riding into the hearts of Filipinos through GMA-7 with the
first-ever launch of a Filipino version of this international hero. The
show premiered on March 23, 2009 to great reviews and audience share.
Two of the country's most distinguished directors: Mark Reyes and
Dominic Zapata, have been at the helm of this project. GMA-7's Zorro
is thus far the most ambitious program to be produced in the local
setting this year.
The GMA version of Zorro continues the saga through the
original Zorro's nephew Antonio, portrayed by Richard Gutierrez, the
"Primetime
King."
In preparation for his role, Richard Gutierrez underwent painstaking
horseback riding lessons together with his co-stars. He also studied
fencing under Benny Garcia, the coach of the Philippine Fencing Team.
The show is shot in the picturesque and
Spanish-inspired location of Bagac, Bataan.
Zorro boasts of a top-notch production and
creative team. The production designs were made by Rodell Cruz, while
the costumes were created by Bill Gustillo. Joining the Zorro
team were Professor Leo Abaya for design consulation and Professor Dez
Bautista for consultation on historical accuracy.
